PSYCHOLOGICAL LANDSCAPES

2023-24

Psychological Landscapes Graphite on paper Psychological Landscapes is a series of graphite drawings that render inner experience as external terrain. Each image acts as a quiet excavation of the psyche, where worm-like biomorphic forms inhabit sparse, desolate spaces. These forms are not merely figures within a landscape—they are extensions of the self, gesturing toward the internal pressures, repetitions, and residues that shape one’s emotional and psychological terrain. The drawings offer visual translations of complex inner states—grief, uncertainty, compulsion, desire—manifested in the slow undulations and ambiguous presence of these fleshy, shifting forms. Their worm-like bodies suggest a ceaseless motion, a digging or burrowing into subconscious strata, as though seeking to uncover something long-buried yet still alive. The barren environments they inhabit speak to isolation, memory, and the echo of experience. Graphite, with its ability to both stain and erase, becomes a fitting medium for this inquiry—allowing for subtle gradients and ephemeral marks that reflect the fragility and persistence of psychic life. This work proposes a landscape not bound by geography but by feeling. The forms, at once intimate and alien, become emissaries of inner life—inhabiting a world shaped by sensation, thought, and unspoken history. They are mappings of what cannot be spoken directly, visual murmurs of an interior world in constant flux.
